Jaromir Jagr has officially taken sole possession of 2nd place on the all-time points list, passing Mark Messier with 1,888 points, trailing only Wayne Gretzky.
Jagr has played over 1,600 career NHL games with 8 different teams, (Penguins, Capitals, Rangers, Flyers, Stars, Bruins, Devils, and now, the Panthers). The majority of the points have come with the Penguins. Another impressive fact is that Jagr has over 200 more points than he does games played. Even though it was a short time, the 44 year-old Czech native played with the Bruins. Adding to the impressive legends who have played in the black and gold sweater. His career totals are currently 755-1,133-1,888 in 1663 career games.
Jagr tallied three assists in Tuesday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres, which set up the opportunity to take 2nd place against Boston tonight. He did so with an assist on the only goal scored for Florida in a 3-1 loss to Boston on Thursday night. Michael Matheson put a shot towards the net, which ricocheted off of Jagr, leading to Aleksander Barkov burying the rebound. It wasn’t the prettiest, but it was a point nonetheless.
Congratulations to a legend of the sport. An accomplishment that has only been achieved by one other player in the 100-year history in the National Hockey League. Below is the comparison of the other two players that hit 1,887 career points.
