The 2017 World Junior Hockey Championships began on Boxing Day and the Boston Bruins were represented by five prospects. Four of them played and here is how they performed.

Jakub Zboril (CZE)

Jakub Zboril’s Czech Republic team stole a win against the defending World Junior Champions, Team Finland with a late winner by Michael Spacek. Zboril played over 20 minutes of ice time and contributed with an assist on the game-winning goal in the third period of play.

Charlie McAvoy (USA)

Charlie McAvoy was joined by fellow Bruins d-man, Ryan Lindgren, on Team USA and they opened the tournament with a dominant win over a Latvia team. The Boston University product finished the 6-1 contest with a +1 rating and over 20 minutes of ice time. McAvoy was also able to put two pucks onto the Latvian goaltender, Mareks Mitens.

Ryan Lindgren (USA)

As previously stated, Ryan Lindgren is on the same team as McAvoy is, meaning he was also apart of the 6-1 win over Latvia. Note, this game was the first game in the World Juniors for Latvia in three years. For Lindgren however, he played only roughly 15 minutes and accumulated a +1 rating as well.

Jeremy Lauzon (CAN)

The fourth player that played December 26th is Jeremy Lauzon. The 2015 overall draft pick was a part of a 5-3 Canadian win over a Russian squad who just wouldn’t let up. Lauzon unfortunately didn’t have the best performance compared to the others already mentioned. Lauzon played only 4:32, 21 seconds within the entire third period. In the limited time frame, Jeremy was a -1 rating. Hopefully next game, Lauzon will have a better outing.

There is indeed one more played that was not dressed on Monday. Czech Republic’s Daniel Vladar wasn’t in between the posts in the 2-1 victory over the Finnish team.

Jeremy Lauzon and Team Canada plays Slovakia, Jakub Zboril, Daniel Vladar and Team Czech Republic plays Switzerland. Team USA will not play until Wednesday against Slovakia. Russia will play Latvia and Finland will play Denmark in the other games tomorrow. The anticipated USA/Canada game will take place on New Year’s Eve.
